How can local trades get more enquiries online?
You don’t have to understand marketing jargon to improve how customers find your business. Here are six practical things a plumber, electrician, builder or cleaner can work on—whether you already have a website or not.
1. Make sure your contact details are obvious
Someone dealing with a leak or looking for a cleaning company doesn’t want to search several pages for a phone number. Make it easy to call or enquire from a mobile phone. Check that links work, your contact details are consistent, and enquiry forms don’t insist on information you don’t yet need.
2. Describe the jobs you actually take on
Instead of only saying “professional services”, tell customers specifically what you do. A plumber might offer boiler servicing, bathroom work and plumbing repairs. An electrician may handle fault-finding, rewiring or inspections. The information should match your actual business and qualifications, not a generic template.
3. Use genuine photos of finished work
Clear phone photos of a finished bathroom, roof, garden or freshly cleaned room can help people understand your workmanship. A short caption about what the job involved is useful. Only publish images you have permission to use, and avoid exaggerating a before-and-after comparison.
4. Keep Google Business Profile accurate
Check your business name, opening times, phone number, services and service area. If you have a website, add the correct website address. Ask real customers for genuine reviews when it’s appropriate; never buy or manufacture ratings. Your business profile and website should make sense together.
5. Say where you genuinely work
Customers often include a place name when they search. If you cover Burnley, Padiham, Nelson, Colne or Blackburn, explain that naturally on your website. Don’t create dozens of identical pages that exist only to repeat a different town name.
6. Review the experience on your own phone
Open the website as if you were a customer. Can you read the text without zooming? Do pictures fit properly? Can you understand the service? Does the contact button work? These practical checks can be more useful than chasing a perfect speed-test number.
What if you don’t have a website yet?
A simple website can give your business a consistent place for services, images, contact details and useful information. BB Web Design builds straightforward WordPress websites for local trades, from £199 one-off setup plus £10/month hosting and a .co.uk or .com domain. We also offer optional local SEO work; no one can guarantee a top Google position.

We offer a brief free website check for businesses in Burnley and surrounding areas. We’ll look at your mobile experience, clarity of services and enquiry options, or suggest a starting layout if you’re not online yet. It’s not a full audit and there’s no obligation to buy.
